Begin Your Caribbean Adventure By Walking Around The Cayman Islands

If you are looking for the ideal holiday then why not book to stay on the Cayman Islands. From your base there you can start your Caribbean adventure by walking in George Town which is the capital of the Cayman Islands. The instructions provided below will allow you to explore George Town and get a feel for the culture of the Cayman Islands.

To begin your walk, make your way over to the Old Courts Building, which is now known as the Cayman Islands National Museum. The museum contains a number of different exhibits which help to tell the story of the natural and cultural history of the islands.

Moving on from that, on Harbour Drive which takes you past the cruise dock is the beautiful Elmslie Memorial Church which was constructed by Captain Rayal Bodden. If you make a right turn, next to the car park, are old grave markers which look similar to the shapes of houses, with the smaller ones for children, these represent the typical graves of the islands. When you explore further into the churchyard there is the Seamens Memorial which bears the names of 153 Caymanians who have been lost at sea. If you look next to the memorial you can see the remains of Fort George, which was constructed in 1790 to defend against the Spaniards who laid siege to the islands and took prisoners to Cuba.

If you then stroll up Fort Street to the modern Legislative Assembly, which plays host to a wide selection of photos which were taken in the old days, displaying the Town Hall and 1919 Peace Memorial which was next door.

If you look outside the Hall you will find the Clock Tower, which was constructed in the memory of King George V, if you walk across the street you will discover the Public Library that was built in 1939. Furthermore, if you walk up towards the Law Courts sometimes you may be able to see a court in session where you can watch barristers argue in front of the judges.

The Post Office which was also put together by Captain Rayal, can be seen down Edwards Street. Furthermore, if you make your way round the corner of Elgin Avenue and Shedden Road you will discover the traditional cabin-style houses. Finish off your walk at the delightful Panton Square.

Holiday Worship Tips For Families With Deaf Children

For the holidays many families go to worship. Here are some tips for including your deaf child and making it fun!
1.Work with your place of worship to have an American Sign Language interpreter for worship services and activities. Usually you have to search for an interpreter who knows the vocabulary and has experience with your worship services. These interpreters are out there, you just have to start your search early! Your place of worship should pay for the interpreter. At our church, after a while we started making the arrangements with the interpreter directly via email and phone, and the church paid the interpreter, this was more efficient and avoided miscommunications.
2.Here is a big tip: work with someone involved with the worship services to get copies of the agenda, scriptures, hymns, and sheet music or at least the words to the songs that will be performed at the service for the interpreter before the worship services. Sometimes it is difficult for the interpreter to hear/understand the words of songs someone or the choir is signing.
3.For really well attended services, arrive early so your family can sit in the front row in order to see the interpreter without obstruction. The location for the interpreter and the entire deaf persons family should be reserved by the church.
4.Include your deaf child in any holiday related activity, for example making advent wreaths etc. With good planning, the interpreter should attend these activities too.
5.If your family will be participating in worship services include your deaf child along with your other children. For example, at one Christmas service our family had to read a couple of passages of scripture. Larry signed a passage and the interpreter interpreted. Larry has a Bible for the Deaf and he signed the passage from his Bible. Again, explain to the interpreter the format of the particular worship service and get the interpreter scripture passages etc early.

From the time we moved to Massachusetts, when Larry was 10 years old, right through to Larrys high school and university years we attended the Presbyterian Church in Sudbury, MA. We were blessed to have Pastor George Saylor who did a great job of including Larry in church activities and services. Pastor Saylor and elder Doris Soule did all that was necessary to ensure that an American Sign Language interpreter was available and paid, for all church activities that Larry attended. Doris Soule gave Larry his Bible for the Deaf. We were very lucky to find Marion Butland to interpret at church activities and services.

When Larry and Amrit were expecting Raveena and starting a family we moved from the Presbyterian Church in Sudbury to Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA. Grace Chapel has a Deaf Ministry with many Deaf members and American Sign Language interpreters for church activities and worship services.

Please let us hear your holiday worship tips!

What to Consider Before Opting for a Vacation Exchange

Arranging a holiday home swap (also known as a vacation exchange) was very difficult and time consuming in the past when relying on printed directories mailed occasionally. Now, however, e-mail and the internet have made the process of arranging a home swap is much easier. If you are trying to organize a home swap, this article includes a few very important points on arranging a vacation exchange.

First, although you will get to know swap partners through regular communication and they won’t be strangers by the time of the exchange, you must be comfortable with the idea of sharing your home with others whilst living in their home. For many people, the savings that can be had will be a motivating factor. The financial benefits and other advantages of a vacation exchange are enormous and more and more people are now choosing home swaps for their vacations.

Second, you must decide on the dates of the vacation as well as a destination that you want to travel to. Arranging a home swap is entirely different from booking a holiday rental or a hotel room which can be done last minute. It is imperative to plan an exchange well in advance of your dates.

Third, you must find people who would like to take up your offer of a home swap. The best way to do this is to visit vacation exchange websites and blogs. Vacation exchange services show updated listings of home exchange offers from around the world. You can browse through all these offers and match them with your requirements. Register with the Home Swap service that best suits your needs.

With the help of the vacation exchange service, you will be able to look for the most suitable houses and apartments at the destination(s) of your choice. Contact the owners of properties you are interested in to see if they would like to visit your area and stay in your home. Many will be open to offers and some will have listed their own preferences regarding destinations and desired kinds of home plus dates they can travel. This will help you finda good match with your own travel plans and preferences. Retired persons and senior citizens often have more time at their disposal which makes them more flexible and open to suggestions for new places to visit.

If you are posting an offer with a vacation exchange service, include detailed information on your home, city/town and the surrounding area. The other party may still contact you for further details. And of course, you can ask the exchanger anything you want about their property. When both parties are satisfied with arrangements and decide to go ahead, they will confirm dates as well as make arrangements for handing over the keys to the exchangers (set out in a simple agreement). Note: You may also want to swap cars to enjoy a vacation at a very low cost.

After re-branding its Tides hotel on Mexicos Rivera Maya last January, the Viceroy Hotel Group announced that the Jalousie Plantation Sugar Beach resort in St Lucia, will also re-launch this year as a new Viceroy Hotels and Resorts property.

The transition of this property as it passes hands to the Viceroy group was highly anticipated and took no one by surprise given the growth of the Viceroy Hotel Group in markets such as Abu Dhabi, Turkey and the Maldives. The group looks forward to a progressive year for the expansion of their portfolio, with the addition of the Jalousie Plantation allowing the hotelier to cash on the popularity of St Lucia holidays.

On its part, the luxurious Jalousie Plantation, Sugar Beach resort, located on an immaculate tropical rainforest in the iconic centre of St Lucias Valley of Pitons, has also recently decided to upgrade their in-room facilities with the addition of new Touchstone Home Products featuring newend-of-bed TV lift cabinets to enhance its luxury villa suites. The Vice President of Touchstone, Frank Quinslink, expressed his satisfaction over the Jalousie Plantation collaboration, and pointed out that the Touchstone technology was designed to match all types of decoration.

We were very excited to work with Jalousie Plantation on this installation of TV Lift Cabinets, he said Our cabinets are a perfect lift for the hospitality industry, especially because we have the ability to custom finish our cabinets. This allows us to match the decor of any resort, hotel or bed-and-breakfast looking to upgrade its room furnishings. It really helped to make our project with Jalousie a great success.

Adding to the resorts improvements, the new Touchstone TV lift cabinets provide the perfect solution for the new flat-screen TVs that are being placed in the villas. Guests will be able to enjoy technology and comfort on their holidays in St Lucia while feeling relaxed in a serene island setting away from all worldly troubles.
